We believe in simple ideas, strong relationships, and lasting impact.
Our Story
Named after our son, Magnus, Magnus Campers are built by Adam and Anna. We are based on the Wirral, Merseyside and after 4 years of converting campers and using motorhomes for our personal use (and selling due to an expanding family!), we have decided to make our products available to everyone!
We love the outdoors, and we truly believe that the memories of our adventures will last a lifetime for our children.
From viewing and using many campervans and motorhomes, we believe that we have sussed what is needed for effective family travel. We focus on minimising weight as much as possible, without cutting quality, to ensure that the van has adequate payload for both on and off-grid family adventures that can be driven by those who do not have the C1 entitlement on their licence. We found that many converters are sketchy around the weight of their vans, this even applies to the very large motorhome builders!
We have taken inspiration from every van we have seen/used. We know what works and what doesn’t. Countless hours have been spent researching, building, making errors and learning from them to be where we are today.
Where it all started
Our journey started with ‘Tina’, a 2006 professionally converted SWB Ford Transit. Tina took us on some awesome adventures around the UK, but after a particularly cold night in Scotland (about 5 degrees inside the van!), we realised she wasn’t even insulated so we upgraded to a rusty old 2008 Crafter, who we called Smobby.
Smobby
Simply named after her number plate. Smobby was a rusty 2008 2.5L Crafter who sounded like a bus. She was our first build, albeit not from scratch, and she provided a good basis to make mistakes and learn how to do this correctly. Hours of research went into building Smobby and this formed the foundation of what Magnus Campers is today.
Vanessa
Our first full build, built in 2023, built from the knowledge and mistakes established from the first two vans. Vanessa was our first true love, she was amazing. A 2014 Crafter, previously used by a mechanic, she took us on our first European adventures, sadly cut short by whooping cough…Everything was handbuilt by us and worked really well, until child 2 appeared.
Vanya
Our second full build, higher spec than Vanessa and also Euro 6, giving us more flexibility in both the UK and Europe. For Vanessa, we used the EVO Motion Design kit, which was great, but she didn’t have the personality of the previous two vans. She was sold and then we took a break from building vans for a couple of years whilst our daughter was young.
Campervan Hiatus
For a couple of years we went to the dark side, the motorhomes…These were brilliant. Spacious and excellent for families with young kids, storage everywhere, but not as planted as the vans and we found them awkward to use in the UK where the roads are super narrow.
Skye
Coming in July 2026, Skye (named after our daughter, Skye) is Magnus Campers inaugural build. Based on an automatic Man TGE from 2019, Skye is a true off-grid family camper.
What Sets Us Apart
Transparency
All builds documented from start to finish, no peeling back plywood to find poor insulation or scary electrical installs. Videos and photos will be provided every step of the way, so you can see exactly what is behind the fancy exterior. All vans provided with a weighbridge certificate, so payload is completely transparent - most van conversion companies shy away from this.
True off-grid 4 season capability
Full Victron electrical kit, plenty of water, chunky 3PMSF tyres, heating and effective insulation. Our vans are designed to be use for both your summer adventures and your winter trips to the ski resort.
Limited builds
We work on limited builds each year. We will not overstretch ourselves and we will not cut corners to meet deadlines.
